Thank You to all the Library Elves!

On Friday, December 7th, the Library hosted its annual Christmas-Winterfest party at lunch.  If you've visited the Library of late, you'll have noticed that it is quite decked out for the holidays. Thanks to Ms. McKenzie and all the monitors, who have made snowmen and reindeer decorations for all staff and students to enjoy.

Our Senior Monitors were also responsible for organizing both the Staff invitations, as well as the entertainment.  We have a very talented musical community at RHS, and the students' renditions of "Rudolph" and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" were a delight to all!

Many thanks to everyone who took part in our "Friends of the Library" event!

A Day of Remembrance

Many thanks must go out to all students and staff who presented a wonderful tribute to those who lost their lives for the sake of others. It is with our loved ones in mind that we are grateful for the peaceful nation that we have, and hopefully may continue to have well into the future.

Annual Hallowe'en Party!

On Friday the Library Club held its annual Hallowe'en party!  Delightful goodies and treats were prepared by Ms. McKenzie, and the students participated in some classic, but fun party games.  Nothing too spooky, but lots of fun!  No doubt, everyone will be in costume on Wednesday....

Thanks to Jeyn Roberts!

Both staff and students enjoyed Jeyn Roberts' presentation immensely on Monday.  Not only did she discuss the whole process of writing novels and having them published, but also Jeyn explained the details behind the scenes.  It was fascinating to hear how one may make a living at writing, how potential books become the "chosen ones," as well as the possibilities of one's work becoming a film. This discussion allowed a window into a world not normally known of to everyday people.  Thus it was quite delightful!

Jeyn found the questions inspiring and thought provoking, some of which she clearly had never encountered!  So a good session was had by all!

WELCOME, JEYN ROBERTS!

Today we are very honoured to have Jeyn Roberts, author of Dark Inside and Rage Within, come to Richmond Secondary and speak to our English 9, IB 12 and Pre-Employment students.  Not only has Jeyn offered to discuss the writing process, but she will also talk about her works and will entertain questions from the students.

We are very excited to have this opportunity and most grateful to Jeyn Roberts for offering her services!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Celebrate Thanksgiving by reading a new book!  Check out the selections in the Library and simply present your GoCard to borrow items.  It's that easy!

Throughout the week, we have been conducting Library Orientations for new students to Richmond Secondary.  By doing so, our new Grade 8's and ESL population may be familiar with Library procedures and materials available to them!  We encourage everyone to come out and borrow a great read!

Finally, many thanks to our Monitors and Ms. McKenzie for all their efforts in making our Library such a welcoming, festive place!

Welcome Fall!

Well, we're back in full swing for September, and would like to welcome both our new and returning students to Richmond Secondary's Library.

Our Library Club has had its first meeting and we'd like to thank all applicants and welcome our new members:  Annie Zhou, Diana Wang, Emily Liu, Janet Mou, Kristin Riveral, Lisa Chan, Marcus Chan, Shirley Wang & Vivien Zeng.

Our Annual Terry Fox Run will take place this Thursday, September 27th, so be sure to arrive with appropriate attire, given the weather of the day. Donations to the Terry Fox Foundation for Cancer Research will be happily received upon completion of the run, and thanks so much for your support!

Summer Reading....

Just a reminder to students to drop by the Library today or tomorrow if you wish to borrow books for summer reading.  Any returning students are welcome to take out materials for their reading pleasure.

Monitors End-of-Year Event

Library Monitors are asked to sign up for the rescheduled party, which will take place this Thursday, June 7th.  Snacks, Drinks & Dessert will be served, but please bring your lunch.

The Final Stretch!

With just a week of classes left, students are please asked to return all Library materials and take care of any outstanding fines by Thursday, June 7th.  By doing so, you may avoid long line-ups for returns, payments & Annuals.

Best wishes to all students as they move into Final, Confirmatory and Provincial Exams!  And we trust that our IB 12 students scored brilliantly on their IB finals!

Good luck to our Grads for Valedictory on Monday, June 11th, and hats off to our Graduating Library Monitors:  Gaithre Kalainathan, Narada Lobo, Adrian Cheung, & Richie Zhao!  Thank you so much for your fabulous contributions over the years and much success and happiness in the future!

IB Finals Have Begun!

Good luck to all of our Grade 12 International Baccalaureate students as they head into final exams starting today!  Exams will run for the next three weeks, so please be mindful of the gym area, as that is where they will be writing.

New Books on Display!

Be sure to pop by the Library for our latest and greatest!  You're welcome to take items out for 2 weeks at a time, and renew after that, if needed.

People who've put books on hold are reminded to come and pick up their items, as others are waiting for them--especially for the Hunger Games series!  :)

One final reminder of Library Fines and Overdue Materials:  please take care of these concerns as soon as possible, to avoid missing out on Yearbooks in June.

Welcome Back!

We hope that all RHS students, staff and family had a wonderful Spring Break, and are returning well rested and ready for the final stretch.

What's happening at the Library this week?  IB French Oral Exams!  So please if you could refrain from chatting near the Seminar Room, Ms. Rooksby & her students would be very grateful.

St. Patrick's Day take-down of decorations is happening today after school for Library Monitors, and Easter/Spring Decorating takes place tomorrow.  Please be sure to check the sign-up schedule.  Many thanks to everyone for making the Library a happy place to be!  :)

Doll's Festival - hina matsuri!

Be sure to check out the gorgeous Japanese Doll display in the showcase window!  Many thanks to Ms. Yasui, Mr. Rikukawa and their students for having provided us with insight into this wonderful festival!  The Doll's Festival, or hina matsuri, takes place on March 3rd.  Be sure to stay tuned for the Japanese Singing Contest as well!

You will also notice that St. Patrick's Day is on the horizon...best wishes and all the luck of the Irish to everyone for March 17th!  Remember to wear GREEN for good luck!  Happy St. Paddy's Day to all!

Good luck to our I.B. 11 students as they begin their journey of the I.B. Extended Essay!  Please feel free to ask any of the Library Staff or Library Monitors for assistance in researching your topic.  We'd be happy to help!

A Delightful Visit!

Thanks to Langara's Susan Burdak & her Library Tech Field Work students for an interesting discussion and visit last Thursday!  As these students consider their future careers, Ms. McKenzie & Ms. MacDicken-Jones fielded many questions regarding libraries, their administration and future possibilities within.

Welcome Langara Library Tech Students!

RHS will be hosting a visit by Langara College's Library Technician students, this Thursday, January 26th.  At this time, Langara students will visit both our school and library, and we will hold a Q & A session regarding the librarian's and library technician's roles.
