Happy Holidays to all RHS students, staff and their families!

Looking forward to a dose of R & R???  How about a good book to curl up with over the holidays?  Not only will you escape to another world, but you may also win one of two special Christmas prizes! Materials are ready and waiting for signing out!  Plus check out the New Book Display coming out this week!

Here's wishing our Richmond Secondary community a safe and restful break as we head into 2012.  Much happiness for a very Merry Christmas, and may you and your loved ones enjoy peace and good health throughout the New Year.

Help out the Food Bank!

For those of you who wish to print materials or have fines at the library, please note that all funds for this month are going to the Food Bank.  As well, we are collecting donations of canned and packaged goods at the library to give to our families in need.  Anything you may have to offer would be most appreciated!

Collaboration Day, Nov. 22/11

Last Tuesday offered Staff the opportunity to view & work with our new Digital Reading resources.  This was the third session conducted this calendar year, as the Online Database collection is continually expanding.

Students & families are welcome to access these materials as well;  simply click on the catalogue link, and use the Visual tab.  If you're off the school site, you will need the login & password.  Check with your library staff for details.

Remembrance Day

Many thanks to all staff and students involved in the Remembrance Day ceremony.  The choir performances were beautiful, and the speakers most thoughtful.  It truly was a lovely ceremony, and our hearts go out to families who have lost loved ones.

A Visit from Wendy Phillips!

Many thanks to Wendy Phillips, winner of the Governor General's Award for Children's Literature this past year, for having come and spoken to three of our junior English classes on Wednesday afternoon.  Wendy is the Teacher-Librarian at MacNeil Secondary School in Richmond, and her first book, Fishtailing, won the ultimate prize for 2010.

Ms. Phillips is a very candid speaker, and captivated her audience by not only providing a book read and talk of her novel, but also a discussion about the writing process and favourite books.  Students were delighted with her presentation, and a copie of her book was drawn for each of the three teachers' classes:  Mr. Harkness, Ms. Verma, and Ms. Ng.

A big thank you again, Wendy, and good luck on your next book!

Welcome Langara Library Technician Students!

On Thursday morning, February 3rd, students from Langara College's Library Technician Programme will be touring our school and library.  Our visiting students will soon be finishing the first of their two-year course of study.  Once completed, these individuals will venture into positions such as Library Technicians in hospitals, law offices, schools, universities and private libraries.

This is an exciting programme, of which we're happy to say that Ms. McKenzie is a graduate!  :)

Welcome and Good Luck to our Langara visitors!
